The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness

The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness (PPTFH) is a community organization created by the residents of Pacific Palisades (90272) to deal with this growing issue.

PPTFH recognizes that law enforcement alone is not a solution to the problem of homelessness, but that law enforcement and outreach together can make an impact in a meaningful and practical way. Therefore, they are collaborating with Ocean Park Community Center (“OPCC”) to provide comprehensive services to the local homeless population, including connecting homeless veterans to services available through the veteran’s administration. OPCC has established and manages a full-time professional Palisades “homeless outreach team” This two-person team is present in the Palisades eight hours a day, five days a week. It locates and engages homeless persons, assesses their needs, connects them to appropriate services and housing, and provides on-call, as-needed support to Palisades residents and business in their encounters with homeless people.

This program is already proving to be very successful.  Here is a message of thanks from one of the group’s success stories.  This group not only helps homeless individuals get off the streets, it helps them regain a sense of worth which will hopefully help them turn their lives around.

Anthony Marguleas, owner of Amalfi Estates, firmly believes in working actively to better our communities, and he spearheaded the fundraising efforts for the Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness.  In a letter to his fellow Chamber of Commerce members, he stated  that “I know personally how much people are frustrated by the issues going on with some of the homeless people in front of our local businesses” and urged business leaders to contribute financially to make a tangible difference in the issue of homelessness in the community.

The cost of OPCC’s services is $125,000 per year and through community fundraising efforts, the Task Force plans to raise $500,000 to pay for three years of OPCC homeless outreach services and the costs associated with signage and brush clearance programs.  If you’d like to assist with this program, you can click HERE to visit the fundraising site.  OPCC is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. All donations for PPTFH are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

At the conclusion of this campaign, it is their hope that every resident and business person will feel a sense of pride because they participated in making Pacific Palisades a safer and more attractive place to live, while also assisting a marginalized segment of our society in a compassionate and respectful way.
