The government’s moratorium on fire insurance coverage has expired.

Today I’ll talk about fire insurance. With the recent horrific fires that went through California, it’s been very challenging to get fire insurance. Six out of the seven biggest fires in California’s history happened in the last 18 months.

Many of you may be aware of the moratorium that the government implemented. The government said that insurance companies had to require and offer fire insurance. Well, that moratorium only recently expired. Insurers can now drop homeowners’ fire coverage. 2.4 million homeowners in California can potentially be dropped.

However, there is a program called the California FAIR plan, which homeowners can get if their insurance company won’t give them fire coverage. Unfortunately, it’s much more limited and doesn’t have the same level of coverage. It’s very important to look into different insurance options and talk to your provider in advance to find out what you can do to protect your home.
