The Beauty of Video Conferencing

Today I’m explaining the basics of my favorite video conferencing service, Zoom.

With the coronavirus forcing most people to work out of their home offices, I figured there was no better time to give a tutorial on video conferencing. Most of the services you’ll be using to meet with clients, coworkers, or even loved ones are free, though some will require a subscription for certain higher-grade features.

  • Zoom is easily navigable, with fairly affordable pricing plans. If you expect your meeting to last longer than 40 minutes, you may want to consider their Pro or Business plan.
  • You can turn the camera feed on or off; in the old days of conference calls, people would be distracted, and you could never be sure that the folks on the other lines were giving their utmost attention.
  • While on the call, you can instant message another individual who is on the call, or you can send out an instant message to the whole group.
  • You can record the conversation for others who were unable to attend.
  • In real time, you can make documents on your computer visible to the other users.

If you have any questions about Zoom or other video conferencing services, please contact me by phone or email. Wash your hands, stay inside, and be safe!
